In this article, we’ll cover what a “dab rig” is, how to set it up, and use it correctly. We’ll also discuss five steps on how to set up your very own DIY at-home rig!
How to Set Up Your Dab Rig at Home
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try making your dab rig at home, we’ve got you covered! All you’ll need is some glass tubing, a glass bong, and some other household items.
Step One: Purchase Your Dab Rig Materials
You can find most of the materials for your at-home dab rig at any major smoke shop near you! You will need one large piece of tubing with an opening that is slightly larger than your joint size (i.e. 14mm), one small piece of tubing with an opening the same size as your joint size, a bong or bubbler with a removable downstem, and bowl, some silicone sealant, a butane torch, and your concentrates!
Step Two: Cut the Tubing
Use a pipe cutter to cut both pieces of tubing to the correct size.
Step Three: Clean the Tubing
Before you can attach your pieces of tubing, they need to be clean and free from any residue or contaminants! Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to ensure that both ends are completely dry. This will help prevent any type of mishap while smoking out of your homemade dab rig.
Step Four: Seal the Joints
Apply your sealant to each end of both pieces of tubing and press them together tightly until they are sealed shut. You’ll need a sturdy bond so that you can use these joints again! Then set aside for 30 minutes while it dries completely.
Step Five: Attach Your Tubing to Your Bong
Once your silicone sealant has dried, you’re ready to attach the tubing and bong! First, remove your downstem and bowl from the bubbler or bong. Then cut a small hole in the bottom of each end of both tubes using a drill bit that is slightly smaller than your joint size (i.e. 14mm).
Apply your sealant around each hole and reattach the downstem and bowl securely. You’re now ready to use your at-home dab rig!
How to Use Your Dab Rig
Now that your rig is set up, it’s time for the fun part – how to use it! There are different ways of dabbing, however vaporizing is the most popular and efficient way.
- Turn on your electric smoker or light up your bong with a flame
- Place your quartz, titanium, ceramic, or glass nail onto the joint of your dab rig body Take your butane torch and heat the nail until it is red hot (be very careful not to burn yourself!)
- Using a dabber, place your concentrates onto the red hot nail
- Inhale slowly and deeply to enjoy the delicious flavors and effects of your concentrates!
