Sulawesi

The people who have an aquarium hobby are pretty interested in Sulawesi shrimp. But, what is a Sulawesi shrimp? It becomes the most common question raised by beginners and other individuals unfamiliar with this name.

Sulawesi shrimp is a unique dwarf species that is relatively new to the world of aquariums. It was found only a few years ago and is now being bred by a small number of experts and breeders.

Read this article to the end to explore more about Sulawesi shrimp and the types of this fantastic species.

What is Sulawesi Shrimp?

The Sulawesi Shrimp is also known as Cardinal Sulawesi Shrimp, an exceptionally dwarf shrimp species considered new to the aquarium world.

A few years ago, it was discovered close to them a unique Sulawesi lake system in Indonesia. As mentioned, it was discovered shortly and is now bred at various places in Indonesia by experts and farmers.

They are becoming increasingly popular among aquarists due to their incredible coloration. They have an overall bright red color with numerous white spots on their body. In addition, they have white antennae and front appendages.

These are tiny dwarf and peaceful shrimps which require Sulawesi shrimp care and should only be kept by a dedicated and experienced aquarist.

These shrimps are considered very useful in Nano and planted aquariums, and their bulk diets are algae, decaying plants, and biofilm. So, if you are planning to have these shrimps in your aquarium, you must know how to deal with them diligently.

They show constant activity because they feed constantly. In addition, these beautiful tiny shrimps do not require any supplemental feeding, but they do need a well-established aquarium.

The only drawback is that Sulawesi Shrimps are more challenging to keep than many other shrimps because they need extra care. But in optimal conditions, these little species thrive and breed rapidly.

Lifespan

One of the essential things about Sulawesi Shrimp is that their lifespan is slightly longer than other dwarf shrimp species. In the right conditions and favorable water parameters, they can have a lifespan of up to 2-Year.

The minus point is that they are extremely sensitive to water parameter change. So to keep Sulawesi shrimp healthy and alive for a long time, you need to stay vigilant about tank or aquarium maintenance and fulfilling all the shrimp needs.

Types of Sulawesi Shrimp

There are different types of Sulawesi shrimp discovered since 2007, and all of them are remarkably attractive.

There are three most common types of this shrimp, which are as follows:

  1. Blue Sulawesi Shrimps
  2. Tigris Sulawesi Shrimps
  3. White Orchid Sulawesi shrimp

Blue Shrimps

Blue Sulawesi Shrimp is one of the most beautiful types of Sulawesi shrimps. Like other Shrimps, their maximum length is 2.5 cm, approximately 1-inch. And their behavior is relatively peaceful while other species live with them in the tank.

Their small size makes them more popular among aquarists.

Tigris Shrimps

Tigris Sulawesi shrimp’s behavior is fascinating to watch. This species is not aggressive, and they enjoy the presence of the species in the tank. They are popular among aquarists due to their ability to live in warm temperatures.

As mentioned above, usually Sulawesi Shrimps are sensitive to water parameters.

White Orchid Shrimp

The White Orchid Sulawesi Shrimps are rarely found in the aquarium trade. These beautiful species get along with the other species and have a peaceful nature. Their small size and friendly nature make them popular among aquarists.

They are the most active shrimps, and you can see them scavenging around plants, rocks for food. Read more articles at skooknewsmagazine.
